Keyboard shortcuts and the palette.

Every key Plasma listens for, in macOS and Windows/Linux form, and how the command palette finds tables, tabs, queries and commands.

How shortcuts work#

⌘Ctrl means Cmd on macOS and Ctrl on Windows and Linux. The same list is used by the native menus, the window and the editor, so a chord can only mean one thing. Press ⌘/Ctrl+/ for a searchable cheat sheet (Keyboard shortcuts), or open Settings → Keymap, which lists the same shortcuts with a search box.

A shortcut only works where it makes sense: query keys need a SQL connection, and the palette hides commands that do not apply to the connected engine.

⌘1Ctrl+1 to ⌘8Ctrl+8 go to the first eight tabs and ⌘9Ctrl+9 goes to the last one. With split panes, the tab keys work inside the focused pane.

⌘SCtrl+S is contextual: in a table tab with staged edits it commits them; in a SQL tab it saves the file. Plain ⌘HCtrl+H is deliberately not used for History, because it is “Hide” on macOS and Find and Replace in the editor on Windows and Linux.

The command palette#

⌘KCtrl+K (or Open anything in the top bar) opens a single search box. With nothing typed it shows groups: Actions, Open tabs, Tables, Saved queries, Redis keys, Indexes and Connections, depending on the engine. Type and it becomes one ranked list in which the best match is first whatever its kind. Choosing a connection connects to it; a table opens it; an action runs it.

The actions include:

  • Run: Run query, Run all statements, Safe Run (dry run a write), Cancel running query.
  • Tabs and files: New query tab, Close tab, Open SQL file…, Save SQL to file…, Commit pending changes / save, Refresh, split-pane commands.
  • Data: Beautify SQL, Export results as CSV / JSON, Query history, Compare results….
  • Tools: Health advisor, Generate code…, Notebook…, Schema diff…, Check migration…, Back up database…, Restore database…, Roles and privileges…, Search in database…, Show diagram, Listen to notifications (LISTEN/NOTIFY), Tail keyspace events.
  • Interface: Toggle dark mode, Toggle presentation mode, toggles for the sidebars, editor, word wrap and font size, Settings, Keyboard shortcuts.
  • Connections: New connection, Open connection string…, Open data file…, Open workspace folder…, Create support bundle…, Disconnect, and, in a DuckDB file session, Attach a Postgres connection to this DuckDB session….
  • Toggle AI assistant and Ask AI about this SQL.

Open connection string… opens a small dialog where you paste a URL such as postgres://user@host:5432/database?sslmode=require to start a connection from it.
